The client

Mitchell Charlesworth is a firm of chartered accountants and business advisors serving businesses and individuals across Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and Widnes. Its teams rely on Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops to access applications and data securely from each office, as well as when they need to work away from a company location.

The challenge

Mitchell Charlesworth wanted to take advantage of newer Citrix capabilities, including support for Microsoft Teams. To do that, the firm needed to move from Citrix Long Term Service Release 7.15 to 1912 LTSR. An in-place upgrade would have introduced avoidable risk into a platform staff relied upon for secure access to business applications and data. The IT team therefore needed a controlled route to a current Citrix environment without a lengthy, highly manual deployment process.

The solution

Virtual Engine used its Evergreen Citrix Deployment Service to build a new Citrix platform for Mitchell Charlesworth. Instead of relying on a conventional, largely manual infrastructure build, the service automated repeatable parts of the deployment process. This created a more consistent route to the required Citrix release while reducing the opportunity for configuration errors.

The work formed part of Virtual Engine’s wider relationship with the firm, which included consultancy and ongoing support for its Citrix and Microsoft applications. That continuity meant the deployment could be approached in the context of the environment’s long-term performance and maintenance, rather than as an isolated version upgrade.

The result

The automated deployment model transformed the time required to roll out new Citrix infrastructure. A process that had taken around five days could be completed in just a couple of hours. Automation also greatly reduced the margin for error, giving the IT team a faster and more repeatable method for introducing new infrastructure.

Alongside the immediate efficiency gain, the Evergreen approach gave Mitchell Charlesworth a practical way to keep its Citrix environment up to date and optimised for performance, supporting secure access to applications and data across offices and remote-working locations.

Hear from both Mitchell Charlesworth and Virtual Engine on the project, the partnership, and the impact of the new Citrix environment.

“Virtual Engine supplies consultancy and ongoing support for our Citrix and Microsoft applications, keeping systems up to date and optimised for performance.

The Virtual Engine Deployment Service has let us roll out new Citrix infrastructure far more efficiently, cutting deployment timescales from around five days to just a couple of hours, while automation has greatly reduced the margin for error.”
